The best ideas come at inconvenient times.

It’s Midnight, my eyes are tired and I’m laying in bed trying to fall asleep. However, my brain is on overdrive thinking about ten different cool things I could be working on. Right now. “Stand up and write it down before you forget about it,” I say to myself. It’s true though. Time and time again, I have a cool idea and I’m in such a situation, location or event that most of the times stop me from taking a note.

Usually, those situations are:

  1. When I’m driving somewhere. This one mostly happens in the morning while driving to work or in the afternoon while driving back home. This one was the easiest to solve. After remembering that I am a relatively smart person and realizing that I carry a powerful device as an appendix at all times of the day, I decided to make use of such device to record myself talking about my mental nonsense.
  2. When I’m in the shower. Obviously, I can’t bring a notebook or any electronics with me inside it. The solution to this one came from a Google search and it’s kinda funny to me. I am amazed at how people come with solutions for these first world problems. Apparently, there is a product called Aquanotes that allows you to take notes in the shower. Brilliant! I haven’t even thought these were a thing and honestly, I’m totally going to get one. 😉
  3. When I’m about to fall asleep. I mentioned at the beginning because it’s honestly the most annoying one. It’s been happening for a few months now. I’ve been getting off my bed then walk to the opposite side of my room, turn on the lights, then look for a marker and then go to my closet’s mirror to write down my crazy ideas. It happens 3 times before I am able to go to sleep. It makes me think that I should go back to becoming a night owl and just work until 2 am. But I am valuing my sleep time more these days and I don’t want to ruin that. I think that the best way to calm my head a bit is to get some headspace and meditate before going to bed. I tried for a few days and it’s been working so far.

I hope my silly problem, and a good one to have, give you some tips on how to deal with noting down ideas.
